Hello, I’m Lynsey.
I’m the founder of Dementia Skills Academy and an independent dementia trainer in West Sussex, with over 25 years’ experience supporting people living with dementia, their families and the professionals who care for them.
My journey began in a small local care home, and since then I’ve worked across nursing homes, domiciliary care, dementia day services, specialist young onset dementia services and senior leadership roles.
I’m a qualified dementia trainer and hold a Diploma in Person Centred Dementia Care through Dementia Care Matters, alongside qualifications in management and leadership.
For 14 years I’ve been a Dementia Ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, helping to raise awareness and create more than 1,300 Dementia Friends.

Professional Experience
Over the past 25 years, I’ve worked across dementia care, community services and senior leadership, developing and delivering services that make a meanigful difference to people living with dementia and their families.
My experience includes dementia day services, domiciliary care, specialist young onset dementia services, community development and leading dementia services.
I’ve also worked closely with care teams, families, volunteers and partner organisations to improve understanding and support.
This breadth of experience means my training is grounded in real practice - not just theory.
My Story
While my professional experience spans more than 25 years, my connection to dementia care is also deeply personal.
I’m a wife and mum of two teenagers, and family life is incredibly important to me. When my grandfather was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2015, I experienced first hand the emotional impact, uncertainty and challenges that a dementia diagnosis can bring to a family.
Supporting him and navigating that journey alongside my family gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of compassion, communication and truly person-led care.
That experience continues to shape the way I work today. I want people living with dementia to be seen as individuals, and I want families and professionals to feel supported, informed and confident in the care they provide.
Why I created Dementia Skills Academy
Throughout my career, I’ve seen the difference that good dementia training can make - not only to the quality of care, but to the confidence of the people providing it.
I created Dementia skills Academy because I believe everyone supporting a person living with dementia deserves access to practical, engaging training that helps them understand the person beyond the diagnosis.
My aim is to empower care professionals, organisations and families with the knowledge and confidence, while inspiring more compassionate, person-led approach to dementia care.
